Discussion Day!

Today in West Civ we basically did nothing. We had a group discussion on a few theories. We went into the idea of other countries not knowing many things about other countries, such as culture, or the way they do things. We talked about that for most of the class and kind of just relaxed. Class seemed to go by really, really fast today for some reason. I had a softball game today and I left at 2, so I was pumped to leave school, so that’s why class probably went so fast. We had people who were absent take the test that we took and we discussed our topic while they were taking it. I think we’re going to move onto a new chapter soon, though. Mr. Schick mentioned something about what if we studied about the ancient Japanese or Chinese, referring to our topic today. I thought that would be cool, but this is West Civ.

Test Day!

Today in West Civ Class we took our chapter test. I have to say it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, and I think I did pretty well. When I saw what I had to do, I knew I would be alright. Hopefully, I’ll do okay on this test and get a good first grade next to our first blog, which was yesterday. This is probably the second test that we’ve taken so far in this class, and I did pretty well on the first one, so I think this one was a success as well. I think all of us in this class probably did okay, considering we’ve been studying the material for a while. We had a lot of time to do the test, so I wasn’t rushed or anything. I am really wondering what we’re going to be learning about next, because I’m excited.

Test Review Class

Today in West Civ we discussed the things we would need to know for the test tomorrow. We also re-watched some of the video on The Greeks to refresh for our test. We didn’t get too far but we have seen it before, so I think all of us will be okay. We went over the important people we would need to review for the test as well. People such as Themistocles, Pericles, or the Oracle. Mr. Schick refreshed our brains on some of the people and some of the concepts that we need to know about. That’s pretty much what we did for the majority of the class and for the last few minutes we just discussed the test. I think this class is interesting so it isn’t really a challenge to retain material. I think our class in particular is fun and knowledgeable on the subject, so I think we’ll be okay for the test.

Relax Class

Today in West Civ we didn’t do anything. We helped Mr. Schick with our projects that we turned in a while ago. We basically just had a relaxing class today and didn’t really do much of anything. We sat around and quizzed each other for other classes we had tests in. We had a good class today just relaxing. Today is Maddie’s birthday so we sang to her and she wore the Birthday Hat for a good few seconds. Other than that we moved seats and sat with our friends, and just talked. Towards the end of class, Mr. Schick told us all to be quiet while he was explaining something. He asked us who was getting ready next year to start Driver’s Ed. After the people raised their hands, we watched a video. The video was based on all these idiotic people almost getting killed by either cars or trains. Some of them were funny because the people almost injured just walked away like it was nothing.

Quizlet Class!

Today in West Civ Class we went over what we are going to do tomorrow. All freshman teachers have to report to a Saint Joseph Workshop. So for the half of the day, we have to go to the gym or auditorium with the rest of the freshman class and do work that our teachers have assigned. In Mr. Schick’s class we are going to have to answer 30 question and 4 short answers to prepare for our test on Friday. We have to go over the videos we watched and touch up on the worksheet that we have worked on several times in the past few classes. In Class, we went over a quizlet to prepare for the test Friday. The quizlet covers mostly everything we need to know for the test, so it is very helpful. The quizlet is 60 slides long and has all the information we need to study.

Mr. Schick, Sick Again!

Today in West Civ Class we watched part 2 of “The Greek Crucibles.” Mr. Schick wasn’t here today because he is sick again, so we had Mrs. Snook as a sub. So, our assignment today was to try and finish the worksheet that we got a few days ago. We had already checked most of the front page and a few on the back, but other than that we still have to check the rest of the back when Mr. Schick returns. I didn’t find a lot of answers in the video, but I was interested in it. It was kind of nice to go to a different room today too. I did like that we could watch the video today, instead of reading the book and taking notes. West Civ is my favorite class so when we have it, I’m really happy. Today was a good class, and the video was pretty good.

Worksheet Review

Today in West Civ we had a really short class. Usually we have a forty or fifty minute class every day or so, but we only had a thirty minute class today due to the two hour delay. The bells weren’t even on today so we were all rushing to our classes, and some of us got there late. In class however, we went over a worksheet. When Mr. Schick wasn’t in class one day last week we worked on a worksheet that went with a video. That was the worksheet that we went over in class today. We went around the room checking the answers just like we usually do and went over it. We didn’t finish the whole worksheet, only because of our very shortened class. Though, we did go over the majority of the worksheet and got a lot of the answers right. We still have to finish going over it which will probably be tomorrow.

"Odeipus Rex" and.....

Today in class we finished our last commercial and discussed some of the slides. We talked about how the theater in Athens held 4 to 5,000 people. They usually produced comedies and tragedies. The comedies were making fun of their gods, or leaders. The tragedies were based on pride. They also told a tragedy of a man by the name of Oedipus that was told he had to marry his own mother and kill his own father. He tried to avoid both by fleeing, and was on his way out of town. His chariot ran into another one and killed the man in the other chariot. The man killed was his father but he didn’t know. Later he started falling in love with an older woman. He didn’t know the older woman was his mother and he eventually married her. He did sleep with her and was disgusted knowing what had happened. He later plunged two swords in his eyes, that way he was blind and didn’t have to see people look at him with disgust.
- They was also a Greek olive oil that people in China even wanted
- The Greeks needed to create a container to put the oil in so they made them
-Though, Greeks made huge containers and decorated them.

Commercial Day!

In West Civ today we presented our commercials. It took a little time to present each commercial for each group only because some of the presentations wouldn’t send to Mr. Schick’s email. We did eventually get everyone’s presentations finished, but it just took a little while to get through. Each commercial was made in a different and creative way. Though, some weren’t very detailed or explanatory. Some on the other hand were detailed and explanatory. It was nice to just sit back and watch the presentations and relax in today’s class. We really don’t do that a lot during school, so when we had a relaxing class today, I was relieved. Sarah and I’s presentation got messed up a little bit only because it kept pausing or skipping forward. But other than that, our presentation went pretty smoothly and Mr. Schick said that he liked it. That was a big relief because we were worried we wouldn’t do good, but I think we did.

Video Class

Today in West Civ class we watched the rest of the video on Ancient Greece. Mr. Schick wasn’t here today due to the Senior Retreat, but we had Mr. Perry as a substitute. I actually had one of my friends shadow me today, and she came in during West Civ class today. We were in Mr. Perry’s class today so he could do work, and so we didn’t have to go all the way downstairs. I didn’t really like the video because it felt like it dragged on and it didn’t really grab my attention. I still did finish the worksheet or study guide, but the video felt all over the place. Though, it was nice to kind of just sit back and relax and watch a video while filling out the sheet. Mr. Perry was really funny today and was a great substitute. Today’s class was a nice way to start off a Friday morning.

Work on Project Day!

Today in West Civ we worked on our projects. Mr. Schick gave us the opportunity to work on them in class today, and catch up on the video tomorrow because he isn’t going to be in class. So, we paired up with our partners or worked alone, and started to get some of it done. My partner is Sarah, and we only got some of it done only because the app we were using for the commercial wasn’t working. We spent half of class trying to find a good and useful app, and then it crashed. So, we are going to find some other way to do it, and are going to try our best to get it done correctly. Other than that, we all tried to get some of the project done and even helped each other out with voice recording. This big project is due on Tuesday, so hopefully we can get it done on time.

Video about Athens and Sparta Class

Today in West Civ we caught up a little bit on what we did for the worksheet we did in class yesterday. We watched part of the video today but didn’t really get any answers. We only talked about helots and Athens and Sparta. We also discussed about the video like we usually do with class discussions. Our class was really short today due to the fact that we had Ash Wednesday Mass today. Mod 2 is usually almost an hour long but we only got about 30 or some minutes into class. So, we didn’t really do all too much in class today. Ash Wednesday Mass was really long so our class was shortened by a lot. Usually we get a lot done and probably would have gotten the majority of the worksheet done today, but unfortunately we didn’t get much done. West Civ is one of my favorite classes and I was really angry our class was short today.
